The Importance of Lighting in Photographing Mini Sessions
As a photography business coach, I’ve worked with many photographers who struggled to master lighting in their mini sessions.

In fact, lighting is one of the most critical elements in photography, and it’s especially important in mini sessions.
My clients and students have found the greatest success with consistency and systems in mini sessions.
That’s why I advise not to try and do too much in mini sessions, as it can lead to fewer images and a worse client experience.
For example, shooting in the middle of the day with the sun high in the sky can create harsh shadows and unflattering lighting. Instead, aim to shoot during the golden hour, which is the hour before sunset or after sunrise when the light is soft and warm.
