BEHIND THE LENS
WHAT IS IN YOUR CAMERA BAG?
3 Canon cameras, 5 prime lenses, and 6 flashes!
WHAT TYPES OF SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?
Wedding and elopement photography!
GIVE ME YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH.
We photograph weddings and elopements for mountain-loving, adventurous couples! We photograph a mix of candids and posed, but our biggest focus is making you look as natural as possible while bringing out real emotions in your photos and making sure you have a fun time in front of the camera!
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?
I fell in love with photography at an early age and one day (soon after college) I just decided to make a website. Not even in my wildest dreams did I think I would end up where I am today!
IF YOUR BRAND AND/OR BUSINESS HAD A PERSONALITY, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT?
Fun and adventurous! With a little bit of dorky-ness and awkwardness ;)
What makes your business stand out from your competitors?
I think my editing style (not light and airy OR dark and moody) and my photojournalistic style at weddings. I love capturing candids and emotion! I also think my knowledge and use of OCF stands out.
WHO ARE YOUR BUSINESS HEROS?
Destri Andorf (my photography mentor in college that taught me SO much!)
Share 3 adjectives that describe you personally.
Adventurous, curious, motivated
SHARE 3 ADJECTIVES THAT DESCRIBE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE.
True-to-color, candid, creative
DESCRIBE YOUR DREAM CLIENT.
Couples that value experiences over things; a love for travel/adventure/photography/animals. Also, couples that have an amazing connection and aren't afraid to be themselves!
Describe the primary feeling/message you want your clients to experience when interacting with your business.
WHAT Year was your first paid session and how much did you charge for it?
I think I charged $50 for a friend of a friend's engagement session!
WHAT ONE ACTION CAUSED YOU TO SEE THE MOST GROWTH IN YOUR BUSINESS?
Blogging every day!
How did you know when to "quit your day job" and go full-time with photography?
When the inquiries kept coming in pretty consistently and I was able to pay my bills with just photography.
What is one of your biggest business failures?
Paying $1000/month for SEO and it did nothing haha
WHEN DID YOU FEEL LIKE YOU "MADE IT" AS A PHOTOGRAPHER?
After I booked my first 10 or so weddings in my first year, I felt pretty confident that I could do this for a living!
What is one thing you know now that you wish you knew when you started your business?
A successful photography business isn't just about taking amazing pictures. I wish I had known more about the business side of things and had invested in learning about that at the beginning. Even just reading more business and marketing books is a cheap yet very effective way to gain some incredible knowledge!
WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL PURPOSE?
To create timeless and beautiful images for couples and their families to cherish for years to come!
WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT RUNNING A SMALL BUSINESS?
All of the unknowns! Not knowing when the next inquiry, paycheck, etc. will be.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM?
Ben and Jerry's PB and Cookies (dairy-free!)
What is the thing you're most likely to end up in jail for?
My husband says it would be for animal abuse from cuddling our cat too hard haha
